The recent legislation introduced in Australia opened doors for TAFE institutes to deliver higher education courses at degree level in addition to certificate and diploma level qualifications. Holmesglen institute accepted this opportunity with enthusiasm and developed several entirely new Bachelor's Degrees. In its history, 2008 marked the introduction of a number of new degree and associate degree programs, increasing the Institutes range of higher education courses to 10. New degree programs, most notably the Bachelor of Nursing, commenced in 2009.
With the range of courses offered at Holmesglen Institute increasing rapidly, its current offering is over 600 programs and now the institute delivers not just vocational training for trades but also more academic courses including ten degrees in the areas of business, building, health & social sciences, hospitality, education & languages and arts & design. Holmesglen Institute has been offering courses to international students for more than 20 years and today there are students from more than 80 countries around the world studying at three of its campuses. The five campuses it operates at are: Chadstone (adjacent to Holmesglen train station), Moorabbin, Glen Waverley, City and Eildon.
Widely recognized, the Chadstone campus houses most of the traditional trades in addition to many other course areas. Within the walking distance to Chadstone Shopping Centre, the campus has 3 on site Cafeteria's and has McDonald's and Nandos nearby. The campus is also the site of the Holmesglen Vocational College. It has one and next to the Cafeteria is an on-sight Subway. Again, the institute goes out of its way to make sure its students are close to comfort and receive all the “non-essentials” of everyday life.
The Waverley campus is the newest purpose built facility and delivers training in hospitality, childcare, multimedia, animation, filmmaking, tourism and recreation. The rural campus, Eildon Campus focuses on the student and staff opportunities. Holmesglen Institute offers two Charles Sturt University degrees at its Chadstone campus as well as its own degrees. Acquired from Chisholm TAFE, the Moorabbin campus delivers a diverse range of courses including hospitality, business, engineering, health sciences, fitness and short courses.
Holmesglen Institute - Melbourne accommodation is suitable for students studying at all campuses. Living in Institute accommodation is a way to meet and learn about people from other countries whilst sharing the house. The houses are modern, fully furnished with two to six bedrooms. The facilities include provision of gas, electricity, water, local telephone calls, washing machine, dryer, television and DVD. Technical assets include internet facilities (via cable) and outdoor sensor security lighting. Monthly cleaning of common areas e.g. bathroom, kitchen, lounge and dining areas along with free airport reception and transport to the accommodation are also offered. International Houses give a friendly atmosphere where students can make friends whilst maintaining a strong commitment to their studies. International Houses two residential villages - Uganda Street Village and Cherry Tree Village provide fully furnished townhouses and apartments for the use of students studying at Holmesglen’s Chadstone and Waverley campuses.The other accommodations available are the Homestay and the UniLodge accommodations depending on the student’s comfort and wish.
The infrastructure of the various campuses is known for facilitating students with fitness center offering personalized fitness programs and affordable membership. There is a child care center, a state-of-the-art facility for health sciences, especially nursing and a hospitality training restaurant at the Moorabbin campus. A conference center serves as the ideal venue for training sessions, product launches and dinner functions. The Rural Learning Centre (RLC) is a specialized property and facility owned and operated by Holmesglen and used as a camp location for student groups.
