Bharati College was founded by the Delhi Administration as Bharati Mahila College in September 1971.
Bharati College started working from the premises of a Government Senior Secondary School for Boys located on Link Road in Karol Bagh. Situated tantalizingly next to the former Naaz Cinema and the Mata Ka Mandir on the one hand and the Bhuli Bhatiyari Ka Mahal and the Buddha Gardens on the other,the College was barely a kilometer from the main

Bharati College was given 8.6 acres of land in Janakpuri in 1976-77. Since the building could not start immediately, jhuggi dwellers took over the site. It was only in 1985, after a huge drive that the College could re-possess the land. Bharati College construction started in the year 1994. In 1998, the College shifted to its new location at C-4 Janakpuri. Today, situated in the midst of undulating gardens in an eco-friendly environment, the college boats of 23 classrooms and 46 tutorial rooms, a seminar and conference room, a studio theatre and 3 Computer Labs basketball and volleyball courts, kho-kho and throw ball fields and a full-fledged cricket ground.
Bharati College has a large and well-equipped library with new text books, reference books and journals in various subjects and disciplines. In addition, the library has books, journals and magazines of common interest in order to encourage general reading and broaden the intellectual horizon of students.
Bharati College has 3 Computer Labs in all. These labs are well equipped with modern technology and have internet facilities. Bharati College earlier offered courses only in the B.A. Programme (then known as B.A. Pass) and a few vocational courses like Office Management and Tailoring & Dress Designing. It has now expanded to honours courses in English, Hindi, Sanskrit, History and Political Science besides offering instructions in B.Com (Pass) and B.Com (Honours) courses. Professional courses like Computer Applications, Family & Child Welfare and Office Management and Secretarial Practice are also popular courses under the B.A. Programme. Part-time self-financing courses in foreign languages such as French, German and Russian; DOEACC level computer courses and certificate courses in Journalism are also open to the regular students of the College as well as outsiders.
Bharati College has a Placement Officer which helps students to get jobs of their choice. It organizes grooming sessions, interviews, group discussion sessions, job fairs, counseling of students in emerging fields of employment as well as provides guidance to students for higher education.....Reading in short
